Atalanta temporarily climbs back into Serie A’s top four after their 3-1 victory Species Friday night in the Gewiss Stadium.
Mario Pasalic passed twice in the second half, on either side of a fine Luis Muriel attack to help La Dea on their way.
The chances were slim in the first half, but both sides were able to take the lead with one chance each.
Pasalies far down to Atalanta, but their best chance fell in the way Josip Ilicic. Jeroen Zoet found himself in no man’s land when he played a weak ball that was lost, but Martin Erlic blocked excellent with his head while Ilicic wanted to lift a shot into an almost-empty goal.
Matteo Ricci save a fine from being forced Marco Sportiello on the other side. Found by an elevated Daniele Verde through the ball, his low effort was cleverly saved by the Atalanta goalkeeper.
La Dea tended to be dangerous during the minutes on either side of the break, and so it proved again because they pressed twice within ten minutes of the recharge. Ilicic and Joakim Maehle combined to close Pasalies for the first time, with the Croatian composing himself and taking his time before getting ready easily.
Luis Muriel made it just moments later. Robin Gosens down to the Colombian who takes a touch to set himself up before curling up perfectly in Zoet’s top corner.
Muriel was replaced by compatriot Duvan Zapata which did not take long to get involved. After having a cross led by Gosens, he played a perfect ball in Pasalic’s path, and the No. 88 retained the coolness in his second place.
Atalanta’s own young forward Roberto Piccoli, who was borrowed from Spezia, came off the bench and passed his parent club with his first touch.
The victory leaves Atalanta in fourth place on 52 points, but Roma can bounce them back with a win over Parma on Sunday.
