At least six dead after Mexican air force crash

Quick video captured rescuers desperately trying to break the windshield of a Mexican air force plane that crashed during takeoff, killing at least six military personnel, according to reports.

The Learjet 45 crashed into the ground after taking off from El Lencero Airport in Emiliano Zapata, near the city of Xalapa in the state of Veracruz, at about 09:45 on Sunday, Reuters reported, quoting the defense’s secretariat.

Dramatic footage shows rescue workers trying to break the windshield of the burning plane while spewing flames and thick smoke.

The six victims have not been identified, and the military will investigate, the ministry added.

It was unclear how many people were on board the doomed flight.

“We express our sincere condolences to our comrades,” the secretariat told Agence France-Presse.
