Asus unveils three new Chromebooks, including one for gamers

Asus has just unveiled three new Chromebooks as part of its new laptop range for CES. The Chromebook CX9 and Chromebook Flip CX5 / C536 (different names depending on your market) are powered by new 11th generation Intel hardware, while the Chromebook Flip CM5 3000 series uses Ryzen chips.

Chromebook CX9

The Chromebook CX9 is aimed at work and corporate environments, with a modern design for a laptop, with a 14 “FHD (1080p) NanoEdge screen and an ultra-light magnesium alloy frame that, according to ASUS, meets military testing standards. is 16 mm thin, weighs about 1 kg, and has a fingerprint sensor.

The screen is available in a Pantone Validated range if you require a high degree of color accuracy. The CX9 also has two M.2 expansion slots, which will set ASUS up to a ridiculous 4 TB of storage space, and you can also get plenty of RAM. It is also the only one of the new models that has a private hatch on the camera. Unfortunately, the release date and price are all unknown.

Chromebook Flip CX5 / C536

Depending on what market you are in, Asus will call it the CX5 or the C536, but as far as we can see, it is the same Chromebook.

The Chromebook Flip CX5 features a large 15.6 “FHD screen, Harmon Karon speakers and a” metallic “design that is almost certainly plastic, though Asus is proud of its Obsidian velvet texture on the palm and the ErgoLift hinge, which makes it especially Chromebook a 2-in-1.This general consumer-oriented model also includes 11th generation Intel chips.

The configuration options vary, with 8 or 16 GB of RAM and 128-512 GB of storage. The 5.68 “touchscreen is also made of glass and the keyboard has a 1.4mm keyboard spacing. Asus says this Chromebook should take up to 12 hours to charge.

Again, pricing is unknown, and ASUS did not say when it will actually realize it.

Chromebook Flip CM5

For some reason, Asus has decided to give the CM5 a ‘gamer’ aesthetic, with color-locked WASD keys for all the games you’re going to do on your Chromebook. Maybe the only thing more the 2-in-1 design is useful in a laptop so you can use the sample as a tablet.

I’m kidding, but some people who are serious about Stadia might really appreciate it. Other specs for the CM5 come a bit below some of the other newly announced Chromebooks, with RAM options as low as 4 GB and a yield of eMMC-based storage, which the other two models cannot use .

It’s also a Ryzen-powered unit, which makes it stand out in the range, and we can’t wait to see how these new chips perform on Chromebooks. When it comes to gaming, though, it probably doesn’t matter much. Stages is a streaming service, and any extra buzz on this side of the internet connection is likely to be superfluous. However, good performance will help if you play titles locally, like with Android games that you can play on Chromebooks.

As you do today, there is no word on when it will land or how much it will cost.

The Chromebook market explodes from work and school happens to both of us at a distance. It’s one of the cheapest and easiest ways to get a screen and keyboard online, and it may not be very exciting, but they are here to stay. Asus’ new range has significant bumps across the line when it comes to specifications, and we’ll be looking forward to seeing it as soon as it’s realized.
