Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition is more than just a preview package

The new paint colors and 21-inch wheels look great.

Earlier this month, the Aston Martin Vantage started as the official safety car of Formula 1. It’s really a big deal and a pretty easy way to connect the F1 safety car to a new, more powerful version of the Vantage.

The Vantage F1 edition makes its debut on Sunday and gets a number of aerodynamic improvements. A full front splitter, submarines, substructure improvements and a large rear wing are said to improve high-speed stability, delivering an additional 441 pounds of power. Special colors inside and out are available, including a Racing Green scheme that mimics the look of the actual F1 safety car.

However, the improvements of the F1 Edition extend far beyond its appearance. The Vantage’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine gets an increase of 24 horsepower, for a total of 527 hp. The torque, meanwhile, remains unchanged, with a more than enough 505 pound-feet. Aston Martin also made some minor adjustments to the eight-speed automatic transmission, which resulted in faster upshifts and more aggressive downshifts under brakes.

Under the skin, the Vantage F1 Edition has stronger front and rear suspension dampers, as well as increased rear suspension speeds. The regular 20-inch wheels from the Vantage are swapped for larger 21-inch rollers, wrapped in new Pirelli summer tires. All of these changes are supposed to improve the steering feel and agility on the road – and since the Vantage already knows how to cut a mat, we’m pretty excited to give this one a go.

The F1 Edition treatment is available for both the Vantage Coupe and Vantage Roadster. Look for these special edition models to hit showrooms this summer. Aston Martin says interested customers can pre-order the F1 Edition now, with prices starting at $ 162,000.
