Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will have ‘stronger and longer’ support after launch than Odyssey

Assassin's Creed Valhalla supports after the launch

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was a big hit for Ubisoft. The open world Viking adventure that was released on both PS5 and PS4 in November last year. Not long after, the French publisher announced that Valhalla had enjoyed the “biggest launch” in the series’ history. And earlier this week, Ubisoft confirmed that it had its best quarter ever in terms of finance – a huge turnover driven by the success of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

With all of this in mind, it makes sense for Ubisoft Valhalla to hit it all – and apparently that’s exactly what it’s going to do. During its most recent earnings call, the company reiterated that support after the launch of the game is a priority, stating that Valhalla will ‘benefit from a stronger and longer program after the launch’ than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

To sum up, the support of Odyssey after the launch was pretty outstanding. It received two solid extensions (each divided into three sections), and a load of free content updates that added requested features, new searches, and more. By comparison, Valhalla started out pretty slow, but it’s fair to assume that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has had an impact on the developer’s plans (as well as the overall bugginess of the game).

That said, February should be a big month for Valhalla. The ‘River Raid’ update of the game is announced this month and brings a whole new activity to the misty shores of medieval England. A laundry list with bug fixes is also underway, and at this point we partly expect everything to fall at once.

In addition, the first expansion of the title, ‘Wrath of the Druids’, is still underway to release this spring. We should hear more about that soon.

Either way, if Valhalla manages to surpass Odyssey’s roadmap after the launch, fans should be a little spoiled. As it stands now, the Assassin’s Creed community seems a bit divided about the direction of the game; there was a recent outcry over the dubious microtransaction shop of the title. Let’s hope these incoming updates fix things.
