Asian woman (69) is pushed to the ground and robbed during an attack in the Bay Area

An Asian American woman was forcibly pushed to the ground, detained and robbed in Daly City, the latest in a surge in attacks on people of Asian descent in the Bay and around the country.

The attack on the 69-year-old was captured on camera around 3:30 on Thursday afternoon. A woman can be seen walking near Serravista and Norwood’s roads as someone chases after her and pushes her away. The suspect then grabs one of her suitcases, looks into it and decides to return to her to grab another bag, which in turn results in a frightening quarrel. After the suspect ran away, the woman could be seen waving her arms for help.

Daly City police told KRON the woman was treated at the scene for her injuries. Police are still searching for a suspect.

“This past weekend, we responded to several robberies in the street. In each of the cases, suspects drove into the area and confronted a woman who was confronting,” Daly City police tweeted last week. “The suspects took the victims’ wallets or backpacks and fled into the vehicle. We are working on clues. Please be careful.”

The random attack took place two days after a series of shootings allegedly carried out by a 21-year-old man at three massage parlors in Atlanta left at least eight dead, including six Asian women. In the Bay, a number of attackers have targeted elderly Asians – they are killing many people and many are afraid to be outside. Last week, Pak Ho, a 75-year-old man in Oakland, died after a robbery in which he suffered brain damage.

The attack came less than 48 hours after Danilo Yu Chang, a 59-year-old Chinese Filipino man, was beaten and left unconscious.

The organization Stop AAPI Hate on Tuesday released its statistics on hate crime; a majority of the reported victims were women.
