A’s, public health officials in talks to open drive-in facility for drive-to-covid-19 at the Coliseum

Oakland Athletics and state officials and local public health officials are in talks to launch a COVID-19 vaccination center at the Coliseum, a team spokesman confirmed Monday.

According to Catherine Aker, a senior communications officer at the team, public health officials from the As and Alameda Province are planning to launch the drive-by vaccination site at the Coliseum’s parking lot.

The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority is expected to vote during Friday morning’s session on the establishment of the vaccination site.

Spokesmen for the Department of Public Health in Alameda County and the Department of Public Health in California were not immediately available to comment on the planned site.

State and local health officials plan to launch similar vaccination sites at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Petco Park in San Diego and Cal Expo in Sacramento, Govin Newsom said Monday.

“These big, massive vaccination sites, you’ll see those coming up this week,” he said.

According to the California Department of Public Health, 185,297 COVID-19 vaccines were administered as of Monday in the greater Bay Area region.
