ARRL on the purpose of amateur radio

17/01/2021

For more than 100 years, amateur radio and ARRL – the National Association for Amateur Radio® – have been responsible for the development of the science and art of communication, public service and the improvement of international goodwill. Amateur Radio’s long history and service to the public has strengthened its well-deserved reputation as ‘Amateur Radio saves lives.’

Amateur radio operators, because of their history of public service, their training, and the requirement to be licensed by the FCC, earned their status as a component of critical communications infrastructure and as a reliable resource ‘when all else fails.’

Amateur Radio is about the development of communication and responsible public service. Its abuse is inconsistent with its service history and statutory charter. ARRL does not endorse any misuse of the purpose here, which is not consistent with these values and purposes.
