Armie Hammer dropped out of an upcoming movie with Jennifer Lopez after messages allegedly sent by the actor leaked online. Hammer described the messages and the reaction on social media to them as an online attack, calling them malicious and false.
Hammer, a star of movies, including The Social Network and Call Me By Your Name, would appear opposite Lopez in the action comedy Shotgun Wedding. However, he will no longer take on the role.
A spokesman for the production told the PA news agency: “Given the impending start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step down from the film and we support him in his decision.”
Hammer, 34, became the center of commentary on social media over the weekend after explicit and disturbing messages allegedly sent by him were circulated online.
