Armed veteran storms animal shelter to retrieve cat: reported

Not exactly the faulty crime.

According to a report on Wednesday, a former Australian soldier burst into an animal shelter in full tactical gear with an assault rifle and tied up a worker in a failed attempt to get his cat back.

Tony Wittmann, 44, was reportedly so mad when workers at the Lost Dogs’ Home in Melbourne told him he had to wait a day to pick up the pet. He is accused of carrying a 23-year-old female worker with the gun in the parking lot, according to ABC Australia.

“Do as I say and listen to me, I will not shoot you,” he apparently told her, a court heard this week. “Do not try anything, or I will shoot you.”

Wittmann led the worker to the building with a firearm that looked like “something a SWAT team would use in the movies,” the unidentified worker said.

He allegedly ordered the anxious to lead him to the cats, and insisted that she get on her knees and fasten her with zippers.

“The accused said, ‘I’m going to lock this door. If I see you, I’ll shoot you, ” Detective Senior Constable Jo MacDonald said in Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

“On this occasion, he acted to get a cat back, for which he would possibly only be ten hours.”

But Wittmann – who had served in the Australian Army before being discharged for failing to provide efficient service – eventually left empty-handed.

He is charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and armed robbery and denied bail.
