PHOENIX – Arizona public health officials on Tuesday reported 40 additional COVID-19 deaths, the most in nearly a month, and 702 new cases of coronavirus.

This was the largest daily increase in deaths since 44 was reported on March 24, and came after a total of two were reported in the past three days.

The last documented total was 855,155 COVID-19 infections and 17,193 deaths, according to the Arizona Department of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard.

The dashboard also showed that 4,539,871 doses of vaccines were administered in the state, with 2,753,064 people (38.3% of the state’s population) receiving at least one shot and 1,955,889 people being fully vaccinated.

The number of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 inpatients in state hospitals increased overnight by seven to 562 on Monday. The number of ICU beds used by COVID-19 patients increased by 155 to 155 overnight.

The state health department’s daily updates provide the case and death data after the state receives and confirms statistics, which can be delayed by a few days or longer. It does not represent the actual activity of the last 24 hours.

The hospital numbers posted each morning are electronically reported the night before by hospitals across the country.
