Arima man, woman charged with Andrea’s murder

A man from Arima is expected to appear before a magistrate in Arima today, charged with the murder of Andrea Bharatt, which took place between January 29 and February 4.

Negus George (24) of Malabar, Arima, was charged with the crime on Wednesday on the advice of the director of public prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC. DPP Gaspard also advised that George’s common law wife, Giselle Hobson (37), be charged with the same address for receiving stolen goods.

Andrea, 23, a clerk at the Arima Magistrate’s Court, was last seen on January 29 when he boarded a taxi in Arima. Her family subsequently reported a kidnapping. She was never seen alive again.

Her decomposing body was found on February 4, 2021 next to an abyss in the Heights of Aripo.

The investigation is under the supervision of ASP Douglas and Insp. Hosein of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 2, while George and Hobson, are charged by PC Israel Emmanuel of the Arima Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Officials from the anti-kidnapping unit, the special operations response team, the cybercrime unit, the Arima police station and the CID were also involved in the investigations.
