Are you eligible for the next round of Missouri COVID-19 vaccines?

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) –

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has activated the following phases of COVID-19 vaccinations, which include police and firefighters starting on Friday, January 15, and people at high health risk on Monday, January 18th.

“People are anxious about when their turn is going to be, but people have to be patient because we plan to spread and vaccinate with something we don’t have yet,” said Dr. Robin Trotman, a specialist in CoxHealth infectious diseases, explains.

Although the Governor will activate Phase 1B Tier 2 of the state’s vaccination plan on Monday, it therefore comes with a reservation.

“It does not mean that we are going to press the ‘GO’ button right away and want to vaccinate people who fall into that person 2 or at high risk,” said Lisa Marshall, director of health in Taney County. ‘We do not have a clear timeline about it due to the availability of vaccines. Many of us ordered it a few weeks ago or possibly even last December, but there is still a limited supply. “

But what you can do now is find out if you qualify as a Tier 2 receiver.

The extended group of qualifiers includes those aged 65 and over or adults with one of the following conditions:

o Cancer

o Chronic kidney disease

o COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)

o Intellectual and / or developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome

o Heart conditions such as heart failure, CAD (coronary artery disease) or cardiomyopathy

o Immuno-compromised state due to solid organ transplantation

o Severe obesity (BMI> 40 kg / m2)

o Pregnancy

o Sickle cell diseases

o Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Tier 3 involving essential workers is yet to come and has not yet been activated. These include pre-K-12th grade teachers, childcare workers and sectors of communication, energy services, food production and distribution (including grocery and convenience stores), government officials, water and wastewater, nuclear reactions, information technology and transport (including trucks . managers).

Then there is Phase 2, which includes those who are being criticized by the economy and those who are important to the recovery of the economy, such as manufacturing, finance, higher education staff and the homeless.

Phase 3 then involves everyone who wants a chance.

Something to keep in mind?

“We can not vaccinate everyone who wants it in every phase before we go to the next phase,” said Dr. Trotman pointed it out. “There will be overlap.”

It is also important to understand that there are a variety of places to choose from to get the vaccine from healthcare facilities to pharmacies, health departments and community centers and mobile sites, which has just been announced by President Biden.

“It never hurts to go to your doctor,” Marshall said. “And also just to call to see who will give it in your community, because every country is just a little different. It is always good to know what is available in your country. ”

Many provinces already have online registrations to sign up for, no matter what level you are at.

‘Right now, the best thing people can do is get on the list so that, if there is a vaccine available, we can reach out to the individuals who want a vaccine and make sure we get it scheduled, Marshall said.

In general, there are some important things to remember.

Be patient, do not expect everything to happen at once; it’s better to go online than to try to make calls and visiting a company’s Facebook or other social media site is a great way to find out what’s the latest on vaccinations.

Good luck, stay informed and stay healthy!
