Cosmopolitan magazine is being chewed out on social media for claiming there is no unhealthiness to be overweight, prompting accusations that the British edition is endangering lives amid the Covid-19 crisis.
The publication had a function in which 11 women representing the different were photographed and interviewed “Sizes” of healthy.
” Healthy ‘can be a loaded word. We asked these women to open up about their personal journeys to recycle ‘healthy’ as their own, ‘ Cosmo explains. One of the women, the influence on social media, Callie Thorpe, told the magazine she focuses on what her body can “do” rather than how it “Like.” Yoga teacher Jessamyn Stanley, who uses similar sentiments, said she adopted her body size and learned to post “fat phobic comments” on social media.
However, Twitter users who respond to the feature do not appear to be particularly sympathetic.
“This is how the left has twisted so many thoughts: we are told that if we do not celebrate obesity *, it means that we hate obese people *”, noticed one answer.
Another disapproving comment pointed out how Cosmopolitan’s idea of “Healthy” changed radically over the years and shared an old issue of the magazine dedicated to “Health and happiness” with actress Audrey Hepburn.
The claim that there is nothing unhealthy about being overweight is not only wrong but also irresponsible, others have argued.
“Why is Cosmopolitan trying to kill obese people, who are particularly vulnerable to Covid?” asks Conservative expert Ian Miles Cheong.
Obesity has been found to increase the risk of severe Covid-19 symptoms and impair the body’s ability to create antibodies, making overweight people more susceptible to mutations in the virus. It was noted that an article published in July concluded that obesity is the most common comorbidity among deaths associated with Covid.
This is not the first time Cosmo has taken flakes for celebrating big bodies. In 2018, there was an obese model, Tess Holliday, on the cover. It has been widely criticized for promoting an unhealthy lifestyle. The American model was unsatisfactory about her appearance in the issue, and made an outburst for the “Horrible people” who was “If you cry about me standing on the cover of a glossy magazine, it’s affecting your petty life.”
