Professor Meyer told Express.co.uk: ‘Due to a record drought in Israel from 1985 to 1986, large parts of the bed of the Sea of Galilee were suddenly exposed to the naked eye.
“Amateur archaeologists and residents of nearby Kibbutz Ginnosar on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee began exploring the newly uncovered lake of the lake in search of artifacts such as anchors and coins that could be exposed by the drought.
“They came across an impressive discovery; the vague perimeter of a boat buried in the mud.”
