Arceus chose his starter Pokémon for very specific reasons

Pokémon Legends: Arceus she chose three Starter Pokémon to suit the historical environment of the game. Last month, The Pokemon Company announced Pokémon Legends: Arceus, his first open-world Pokémon game. The new game will take place in ‘Feudal Sinnoh’, somewhere between 400 and 800 years before today’s Pokémon games. While the game will still feature many well-known Pokémon from the Sinnoh regions, it will use Starter Pokémon from other games instead of the traditional Sinnoh Starter Pokémon. Players can choose between Rowlet, Cyndaquil or Oshawott as their first Pokémon instead of the traditional Sinnoh trio Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup.

The Pokémon Legends Starter Pokémon was probably chosen to honor the game’s historical roots. All three of the selected Starter Pokémon evolved into Pokémon that fit into the feudal themes of the game. Rowlet develops into Decidueye, a Grass / Ghost type Pokémon known for his archery skills. Oshawott develops into Samurott, a water / steel type Pokémon modeled after a samurai. Although Cyndaquil’s developed form Typhlosion has no immediate obvious connection with feudal Japan, the Japanese name Bakphoon sounds similar to bakufu, which is the name of the military government that ruled Japan during the feudal period.

We do not know much about it yet Pokémon Legends: Arceus unlike the general environment and the unique approach of Pokémon battles. Instead of turn-based battles taking place in a separate system, players will fight in real time, without switching between the world map and battles. Players must explore the Sinnoh region and compile information for the region’s first Pokedex. As the name of the game suggests, the Mythical Pokémon Arceus will be involved in some way and we can see some major additions to the Pokémon mythology coming out.

No release date announced Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but the game is expected to appear in early 2022.
