(Reuters) – Apple Inc.’s hardware engineer Dan Riccio will retire to oversee a new project.

Riccio will report to CEO Tim Cook, Apple said in a statement. He will be replaced by the company’s veteran John Ternus, who will join the executive team as senior vice president of hardware engineering.

Riccio, who joined Apple as vice president of product design more than two decades ago, was named vice president of iPad hardware engineering in 2010 and leads the Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod engineering team.

The company focused on newer projects and continued with self-driving car technology, aiming for 2024 to manufacture a passenger vehicle that could include its own breakthrough battery technology, Reuters reported last month. (heruit.rs/3oimk75)
