Apple’s 20-year-old head of developer relations retires ahead of Epic App Store’s trial

Twenty years ago, Apple CEO Steve Jobs stripped Ron Okamoto of Adobe to become vice president of developer relations and later to help build the App Store. Now we hear that he’s retired – less than a few months before Apple’s App Store is put to the test.

The eagle eyes Mark Gurman at Bloomberg noted that Okamoto was not only listed as a potential witness in that trial, but that the court documents described him as the former VP of global developer relations, not the current one. Bloomberg now reports that he has been replaced by Susan Prescott, a product marketing manager who became one of the company’s public faces in 2015.

Okamoto has yet to be put on trial, but maybe less than an hour. He will apparently testify about the policy, the business model of the App Store, how it compares to the development for macOS and the “transformation of the application software business.”
