Apple Watch calls for immediate help for man who fell through ice

A man from New Hampshire was ice skating on a frozen river when he fell through the ice, but he was able to get very close help to use his Apple Watch immediately.

Firefighters responded to a 911-minute call after William Rogers fell through the ice on Salmon Falls River in New Hampshire. He skates on the ice and does not realize the ice is thin enough to fall through.

“I remember saying to myself, ‘OK, don’t panic. Don’t panic,'” Rogers said. “Find out what your options are here.”

When the seconds passed and hypothermia was about to go in, he remembered that he was wearing his Apple Watch, and he used it to call 911.

“So, I told them I probably had ten minutes before I could no longer respond,” he said.

The fire department that provided the rescue was able to arrive within five minutes of the call by the Apple Watch.
