The default app grid is not always the best.

After taking your shiny new Apple Watch out of the box and connect it to you iPhone, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with all the options and settings buried in both the Watch app on your phone and the Settings app on the watch itself.

Whether you are a Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch 6 or even a Series 3, they all walk the same WatchOS 7 software and has (mostly) the same features and settings. Whether it’s your first watch or an upgrade, there are many settings you need to know. Sometimes the camera roll is sometimes overwhelmed by faulty screenshots. But it does not have to be that way.

Also, do not let the number of applications on your watch overwhelm you. And certainly do not get frustrated that Siri is talking to you at random. There are simple solutions to some of these annoyances.

We guide you through changing seven settings that will make your Apple Watch experience smooth and enjoyable.

Adjust all your activity goals

With the release of WatchOS 7, Apple has added the option to change your goals for the amount of time you stand and exercise. Previously, you could only change your Move (or calories) goal.

Instead of using the default values - 30 minutes of exercise and a cumulative twelve hours a day – you can change one to your actual daily routine.

This small change will allow you to reach your own targets when you start the day, not when Apple claims it. For example, if you use sleep tracking overnight and need to charge your watch more in the morning, you will not feel like you have lost an hour to lock the rings.

Make the Activity app on your watch, then scroll down and tap Editing goals. Make your adjustments for all three criteria and start closing the rings.

So long, random screenshots

To take a screenshot on the Apple Watch, simultaneously press the Digital Crown and the side button. This is a simple and easy method unless you are like me and regularly accidentally activate it and fill the photos app with random photos from your watch.

Open the to eliminate the possibility of taking screenshots completely Institutions app on your watch or use the Watch app on your phone and go to General and scroll down until you find it Enable screenshots. Turn it off and go back to a junk-free camera roll.

Prevent each app from being installed automatically

Each time you install an app on your iPhone, it will automatically install the Apple Watch counterpart if there is one. This can confuse your watch’s approver fairly quickly, making it difficult to find the programs you want to use on your watch.

In the Watch app on your phone or in the Institutions app on the Watch tap General and then slide the switch next to it Automatic installation of the program after the Out position.

From now on, you can install individual apps on your watch by opening the Watch app on your phone and then scrolling down where you will find a list of available apps.

Stop the annoying AF reminders to breathe

Every few hours, a beep goes off your Apple Watch and taps on your wrist, reminding you to take a moment to breathe. The first time it happens, it’s quite funny, Why do I need a reminder to breathe, crazy watch ?! Then it happens again. And again. Every four hours by default for a physiological act that is literally involuntary.

The Breathe Reminder is designed to take you a few minutes to clear your mind and control your breathing, thus lowering your heart rate and possibly making you feel more centered and calm. But if you’re like me and never follow the directions, it’s taking a few seconds to turn it off so you no longer have to be reminded to breathe.

Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, then scroll down and tap on the Breathe app option. Following,
choose Notifications off.

Make it easier to find your apps

The grid of the honeycomb app looks good at first glance in promotional photos, but it can be difficult to find the app you want to launch, especially if you have a lot of apps on your watch. Instead of using the grid, the clock can display all your programs in an alphabetical list.

In the Watch app on your phone or in the Institutions app on the Watch and tap App View > Light up. If you now press on the Digital Crown to leave your watch, you will see a list of programs that you can browse quickly and find what you are looking for.

Control when you will see Siri

There are three different ways to activate Siri on your Apple Watch. You can lift your wrist to your mouth and start chatting, long press the Digital Crown or use the wake-up phrase ‘Hey, Siri’.

I find that I often accidentally activate Siri when I try to check the time or read a notification while talking to someone else (but my watch thinks I’m trying to talk to Siri). It’s annoying, but fortunately it can be changed.

In the Watch app on your phone or in the Institutions app on the Watch, select Siri and there you will find three buttons to control when you will see Siri. Move each button to the Out position for any of the options you do not want to use.

This is a hidden feature that you need to memorize now.

Review the Control Center

Just like Control Center on your iPhone, Control Center is on the Apple Watch where you go to quickly adjust settings such as “do not disturb” and the airplane mode and turn on the flashlight.

However, you may find that the default list of options in Control Center does not best match the way you use your watch. For me, that means moving the bedtime switch from the bottom of the list to the top. That way if I want to track down my sleep over the weekend when I do not have my sleep goals, I can get up and tap on the icon.

To access the Control Center on your watch, swipe from the bottom of the watch or if you can long press on the bottom of the screen in an app until you see that Control Center starts sliding, all you need to move your finger to access it. The same trick works to see your notifications from everywhere.

Change the order, or hide a few buttons in the control center by tapping Edit at the bottom of the list. The icons will start to flicker and show a red minus sign to hide an option. Drag the icons in your desired order, or tap the red minus button to remove the option completely.

Tap when done finished or press the Digital Crown on the side of your watch to return to the watch.

There are many more Apple Watch features that are worth checking out. For example, the ECG program can help identify irregularities in the heartbeat, there is a new dance practice, en you can even share your personal watch faces.
