Google has added the Apple TV app, the only way to get the Apple TV Plus service, to its latest Chromecast device.
As of Thursday, users with the $ 50 Chromecast with Google TV adapter will have access to Apple TV. In addition, the Apple TV app is available on smart TVs from Sony and TCL with the Google TV interface and Google says it will roll out to more Android TV devices in the next few months.
The agreement between the two technology giants, which compete in various fields, was announced in December.
The Apple TV app (not to be confused with the Apple TV 4K set topbox) provides access to Apple TV Plus. The VOD subscription subscription regularly becomes $ 4.99 per month available to buyers of Apple devices for a free one-year period (an offer that Apple has extended until July). The Apple TV Plus series of original shows, movies and documentaries includes series such as “Ted Lasso” (nominated for two Golden Globes this year), “For All Mankind”, “The Morning Show” and “Servant”, as well as films such as ” Greyhound “starring Tom Hanks and” Palmer “starring Justin Timberlake.
With Apple TV, you can also buy or rent more than 100,000 movies and apps from iTunes (and access titles you previously purchased from Apple). You can also subscribe to channels including Showtime, Starz, AMC Plus and CBS All Access (becoming Paramount Plus next month).
To access the Apple TV app on the Chromecast with Google TV, users can navigate to the “Apps” tab or the apps row in the “For you” tab.
In the US, Google TV users can browse through Apple TV Plus original in the personalized recommendations and search results. Using Google Assistant, you can open the Apple TV app or play an original Apple title by saying a command.
The latest Chromecast, which first aired in the U.S. last September, supports hundreds of shows, including those for Netflix, Disney Plus (and Disney Plus Hotstar), Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, NBCUniversal’s Peacock, YouTube TV , Showtime, Starz, Discovery Plus, Tubi and Pluto TV.
The HDMI-based Chromecast with Google TV is a more robust streaming device than its predecessors. It includes Google TV, a newly designed entertainment interface that combines streaming services, live TV, movies, programs and other programs. It also features a standalone, voice remote control and supports up to 4K HDR video at up to 60 frames per second.
