Our favorite power device has just received a major update.

As initially teased by Google in December, Chromecast with Google TV now supports the Apple TV app on its platform. Other devices powered by Google TV will also provide support for the app, including Sony and TCL’s 2020 TVs when it finally hits the market later this year. Google has also said that the app will come on additional Android TV devices in the coming months, but does not elaborate on what specific devices will be included.

Adding the Apple TV App for Chromecast devices are huge – that means Apple users who have been accessing all the content they bought for years via the platform on their Chromecast with Google TV. In addition, for people with subscriptions to Apple TV +, they can also stream Apple’s original articles on the Google device.

Apple TV was one of the last major streaming apps missing with Google TV at the Chromecast, and the addition makes it a strong contender for cheaper alternatives to Apple’s own set-top boxes. The interfaces are very different, and Google TV places a much greater emphasis on recommendation and discovery. But specifications, and especially for the comfortable streamer that does not require a lot of storage on the device, Google TV passes most of the same boxes to premium features – and it costs a quarter of what the Apple TV 4K box does.

Apple originals will now appear in Google TV search results and content recommendations, and will also be added to the watchlist. In addition, the Google Assistant can now play Apple titles. These features are now available in the US, but will be introduced to global users in the coming months, the company said.

The best budget power supply is only getting better.
