In an email sent to Parler this morning, Apple said they had received complaints that the app was used by supporters of President Donald Trump on Wednesday to plan and coordinate the infiltration of the US Capitol. Apple says the Parler app violates offensive content and user guidelines for content.

We need your immediate attention regarding serious violations of the ‘App Store’ guidelines we found with your app, Parler.

We have received numerous complaints about offensive content in your Parler service, allegations that the Parler app was used to plan, coordinate and facilitate the illegal activities in Washington DC on January 6, 2021 which (among other things) led to loss of life , numerous injuries and the destruction of property. It appears that the app is still being used to plan and facilitate further illegal and dangerous activities.

Our investigation found that Parler does not effectively moderate and remove content that encourages illegal activity and that poses a serious risk to users’ health and safety in violation of your own Terms of Service, found here: https: //legal.parler. com / documents / Extension-on-guidelines.pdf

Content of this dangerous and harmful nature is not suitable for the ‌App Store‌. As you know from previous conversations with App Review, Apple requires that apps with user-generated content be effectively moderated to ensure that offensive, potentially harmful content is filtered. Content that threatens the well-being of others or that is intended to incite violence or other lawless acts has never been acceptable in the ‌App Store‌.

Your CEO recently said, “But I do not feel responsible for this, nor the platform, as we are a neutral city square that only obeys the law.” We want to make it clear that Parler is in fact responsible for all the user-generated content that is in your service, and to ensure that this content meets the ‘App Store’ requirements for the safety and protection of our users. We do not distribute dangerous and harmful content programs.

Apple demands that Parler submit an update and a ‘requested moderation improvement plan’ within 24 hours of receiving the email on Friday morning. If Parler does not comply, the app will be retrieved from the ‌App Store‌.

John Matze, CEO of Parler, said on the social network that Parler would not ” pardon politically motivated companies and the authoritarian who hates free speech. Since being launched in 2018, Parler has been an alternative to free speech for mainstream social networks with more relaxed rules for moderating content, which has attracted those banned or suspended from Twitter, Facebook and other social networks.

In the related news, the social network Twitter announced today that it has permanently suspended the Twitter account of US President Donald Trump. Twitter said the bill was suspended because of the “risk of further incitement to violence.”

Twitter suspended Trump’s account for 12 hours yesterday after he posted a video calling rioters “very special” and reiterating the claims of election fraud.

Twitter said the bill would be unlocked if Trump deleted tweets, but warned that further violations would result in a permanent ban. Facebook and Instagram also banned Trump indefinitely, and Google Play removed the Parler app on Friday night.
