2020 was, among other things, the year of the virtual Apple event. With the coronavirus pandemic forcing the launch of products online, the traditional marathons were on stage, replaced by a steady stream of press releases and product-specific videos. And it looks like the trend is going to continue this year.
There are rumors that Apple is planning a spring event in March, and there is no shortage of leaks suggesting new products may be in store. From new iPads to AirPods updates, via a slew of new Macs, spring could be a fruitful season for Apple fans. (Check out our Apple Deals page for the best deals on the latest package.)
Spring meetings are not a given in the Apple calendar, but the company sometimes chose to launch new products in March. In 2019, Apple TV + and Apple Arcade were launched, while in 2016 it announced the first iPhone SE in the same month. Last year in October, Apple leaker Jon Prosser claimed (below) this year’s spring event will take place on March 16th. (Note that he also claims that the headliner would be Apple’s over-the-ear AirPods – which came out in December.)
Okay, what about “One More Thing”? Following this ARM Mac event in November, the next Apple Event (currently a digital event) will take place on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. VentEvent Headliner is AirPods Studio (B515) https://t.co/UxqQr6je1c pic.twitter.com / oCxVhg3owb16 October 2020
So, if Apple is indeed planning a spring meeting, what do we expect to see? One of the leading rumors suggests that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is eligible for an update that could see it become the first Apple tablet to have a super-bright LED screen. But it’s not just the largest iPad that is rumored to be getting a fresh coat of paint. The iPad mini has been languishing without updating since 2019, but may eventually be in line for a redesign with smaller edges and a larger screen.
We also heard rumors that both the AirPods and AirPods Pro may get this spring. Although the basic AirPods allegedly use design modes of the AirPods Pro, the AirPods Pro itself are some sensational new features – including the ability to control it with your teeth (yes, you read that right).
As for the Mac series, we recently heard that the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac would all be in line for a redesign in 2021. Whether it’s only going to appear in the spring – both MacBooks received the incredible new M1 chip in November, so Apple may want to give these models a little longer in the sun before redesigns appear. That said, the company is no doubt eager to roll out the M1 chip further – and since the iMac will not yet enjoy the new internals, can it be anticipated for an update this spring?
Of course, we’ll have to wait to see if Apple’s March event materializes at all. The company may choose to disclose new products via a simple press release, or it may indeed hold a complete opportunity up its sleeve. If 2020 has shown us anything, it is that anything can happen – even the iPhone launch event was knocked off its traditional lock last year.
Meanwhile, there is hardly a shortage of amazing products to get your teeth into from 2020. And with the unmatched iPad Pro offerings and surprising M1 MacBook discounts out there at the moment, you can already save a lot on Apple’s latest and greatest.
