Apple Silicon iMac Potentially Occurs in Xcode Crash Log

Apple is expected to release a silicone-powered iMac redesigned iMac later this year, and ahead of time, developer Dennis Oberhoff discovered an unreleased ARM-based iMac in an Xcode crash log for his Mac app DaftCloud.

Oberhoff shared the Xcode crash log on Twitter and with 9to5Mac, who has taken a closer look at the logbook and thinks it is legal.

DaftCloud is a third-party macOS desktop app for the music website SoundCloud, and it’s possible that an Apple engineer may be using the app on an Apple silicone iMac prototype, but that’s just speculation. The logbook indicates that the iMac is using MacOS 11.2.1, which was released in early February, but no further details can be seen.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reported earlier that a redesigned iMac with an Apple silicone chip will be released later this year. Gurman said the design of the new iMac will be inspired by Apple’s high-end Pro Display XDR, with a slimmer edge around the screen, no metal chin under the screen and a flat top.

Earlier this month, Apple announced that the iMac Pro will be discontinued, while 512 GB and 1 TB SSD upgrade options are currently not available for the 21.5-inch iMac.
