Apple says some iPhone 12 hardware issues will no longer require replacement of the entire device

Apple today informed Apple’s authorized service providers that they are going to introduce a new method for repairing the same units for the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 models with certain issues that usually need to be replaced.

In an internal memorandum obtained by MacRumors, Apple said technicians will be able to offer repairs to the same units from February 23 for iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 models that cannot be turned on or that have problems with the logic, Face ID . system, or the casing of the appliance, such as cracked rear glass.

Apple Authorized Service Providers (and probably Genius Bars) will have a new “iPhone Rear System” section available that consists of the back cover of an iPhone with all components except the screen and rear camera, including the battery , logic, charging coil, Taptic Engine, Face ID system, and so on.

For example, if a customer has an iPhone 12 mini with a cracked glass, technicians can replace the entire back of the device with the new case on the original screen and the rear camera. For this reason, the customer’s screen and rear camera must be free from damage or functional failure, according to their Apple device, to be eligible for the same repair method.

According to Apple, the new repair method will be available in all countries and regions where the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 are sold. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max models currently do not appear to be eligible.

In its memo, Apple said that this step is the company’s continued commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of every product it sells.
