Apple said it is working on a cheaper external monitor to pass Thunderbolt screen

Apple has begun early development of a cheaper external monitor that will go on sale with its high-end Pro Display XDR, according to Bloombergsee Mark Gurman. The show would be a consumer-oriented sequel to Apple’s previous Thunderbolt Display, which was launched in 2011 for $ 999 and discontinued in 2016.

The report claims that Apple’s new lower price screen will have lowered brightness and contrast ratio compared to the Pro Display XDR, which costs $ 4,999 before introducing an optional standard of $ 999:

As part of the revamped Mac desktop efforts, Apple began developing a cheaper external monitor to sell with the Pro Display XDR. Apple’s current monitor debuts in 2019 and costs $ 5,000 – before setting the $ 1,000 standard.

The cheaper monitor has a screen that is more suitable for consumers than professional use, and will not have the brightness and contrast ratio of the highest offer. Apple last launched a consumer-grade monitor called the Thunderbolt Display in 2011 for $ 999, but discontinued it in 2016.

There is no word yet on the size, resolution or other specifications of Apple’s cheaper screen, but the Pro Display XDR is equipped with a 32-inch 6K screen, while the Thunderbolt screen is a 27-inch panel with a QHD resolution of 2560×1440. The screen probably has a much thinner front end than the Thunderbolt screen.
