Apple releases macOS Big Sur 11.2 with bug fixes for Bluetooth, external monitors, iCloud Drive and more

Apple today released macOS Big Sur 11.2, the second major update to the ‌macOS Big Sur‌ operating system released in November. OSMacOS Big Sur‌ 11.2 comes more than a month after the release of macOS Big Sur 11.1.

First look at Big Sur Feature2

The new ‌‌‌macOS Big Sur‌‌ 11.2‌ update can be downloaded for free on all compatible Macs using the System Preferences Software Update section.

According to Apple’s release notes, ‌macOS Big Sur‌ 11.2 addresses several bugs, such as an issue that could cause external external displays to display a black screen when paired with a ‌M1‌ ‌Mac mini‌ using an HDMI-to-DVI converter and an issue that caused iCloud Drive to deactivate when the ‌iCloud Drive‌ Desktop & Documents Folders option was disabled.

Apple’s full release notes for the update are available below:

OSMacOS Big Sur‌ 11.2 improves Bluetooth reliability and solves the following issues:
External monitors can display a black screen when connected to a ‌Mac mini‌ (‌M1‌, 2020) using an HDMI-to-DVI converter
Changes to Apple ProRAW Photos in the Photos app may not be saved
– Disable CloudiCloud Drive‌ after disabling the CloudiCloud Drive‌ Desktop & Documents Folders option
– System Preferences may not be unlockable when you enter your administrator password
– Globe key cannot display the Emoji & Symbols window when pressed

Although not mentioned in the release notes, one of the MacOS Big Sur.2 11.2 betas removed a feature that allowed Apple applications to bypass firewalls, security tools, and third-party VPN applications. OSMacOS Big Sur‌‌ 11 includes a ContentFilterExclusionList that allows Apple applications such as the App Store, Maps, iCloud, and more to avoid firewall and VPN applications that users have installed.

These apps could not filter or inspect traffic for some built-in Apple apps, and the features were removed. Apple applications are now compatible with VPN applications and can no longer bypass firewalls and other security tools.

OSmacOS Big Sur‌‌ is a major update that completely redesigns the Mac, along with new features designed for ‌‌M1‌‌ Macs. Full details on all the new features in ‌‌macOS Big Sur‌‌ can be found in our summary.
