Apple pulls more iMac models for possible M1 refresh

Apple’s spring cleaning checklist this year looks mainly like the iMac. After the iMac Pro was discontinued earlier this month, it has now deleted the 512 GB and 1 TB SSD configurations from the 21.5-inch workstation, according to MacRumors. However, you can still buy 256 GB SSD and 1 TB Fusion version.

The two configurations have reportedly not been available on Apple’s website since last month and have now been completely removed. It’s still unclear why Apple decided not to sell it anymore, but it could be that it was simply stockpiling before the release of a new iMac series. Bloomberg reported earlier that it is working on two new models that reduce the current iMac’s display case, the large chin and the curved back. The new all-in-one desktops will also pack Apple’s internal M1 chips as part of the ongoing move away from Intel’s processors.

At the same time, it could also be that Apple is grappling with the same supply shortages that have disrupted the broader technology industry. In addition to a pandemic-induced semiconductor shortage, leading SSD supplier Samsung has been forced to operate at its Texas chip factory due to power outages due to extreme weather conditions.
