Apple may stop manufacturing iPhone 12 mini next term

A new report by William Morgan of JP Morgan claims that Apple’s supply chain may stop making the iPhone 12 mini next quarter.

From AppleInsider:

Prediction of higher build numbers for Apple’s “iPhone 13” series.

In a comment to investors seen by AppleInsider, JP Morgan’s supply chain analyst William Yang shows some of his predictions for the current iPhone 12 series and the next iPhone series expected in the latter half of 2021.

The report claims that Yang believes that Apple will make a much higher percentage of the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro devices, as well as the iPhone 11, than previously expected. Yang revised the building numbers to 11 million, 2 million and 8 million units respectively. However, Yang lowered expectations of iPhone 12 and 12 mini-buildings by 9 million and 11 million, respectively:

He also lowered the expectations of the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini-number by 9 million and 11 million respectively. Yang notes that the supply chain may stop producing by the second quarter of 2021 due to the seemingly weak demand for the iPhone 12 mini.

There is no indication or reason to believe that Apple will stop selling the iPhone 12 mini or market the phone for the rest of its life. On the contrary, it seems that Apple simply can not move any stock, which denies the need to make more.

The news follows numerous recent reports that Apple’s iPhone 12 mini is the least popular iPhone 12, accounting for only 6% of sales. One report noted that a ‘weaker-than-expected’ demand prompted Apple to shift production efforts to other models, reflecting the report.
