Apple is already working on 6G before 6G, that’s even a thing

Apple’s first 5G phones arrived a few months ago, but the company is already exploring the future of cellular connectivity.

A recently published mailing list for a wireless research systems engineer has teased the company’s ambitions for 6G cellular technology. This list, previously reported by Bloomberg, says the position “will be at the heart of a leading research team responsible for creating the next generation of disruptive radio access technologies in the next decade.”

“You will work on defining concepts at the system level, proposing and investigating innovative ideas and algorithms, performing complex system simulations, defining rapid prototyping platforms to prove your ideas and specify RAN protocols and for the next generation ( 6G) cellular systems, “says the list. . Under the responsibilities of the role, Apple says, the position will participate in industry and academic forums, “passionate about 6G technology.”

Apple did not immediately return a request for comment on the development of next-generation cellular technology.

Apple may be exploring the future of cellular connectivity, but we’re quite a way to prevent such technologies on Apple devices – possibly a decade or more, as 6G at this point is little more than an idea. A next generation of wireless standard has not yet been determined (and is probably still years away). In addition, Apple has introduced its pass first generation 5G iPhones end of last year. And in the zoom out of its latest phones, many of its products are still 4G devices.

But it’s pretty clear in the job offer, which states that a good candidate can be someone who loves ‘working on challenges that no one has solved yet.’ And technologies, clearly, do not yet exist.
