Apple does not hold iPad Pro launch ‘AirTags’ on March 16

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman poured cold water over rumors of a special Apple hardware rally that was supposed to take place on March 16, and it started earlier this week on the back of unfounded tweets.

Earlier this week, Twitter accounts “LeaksApplePro” and “FrontTron” claimed Apple was planning to release new iPad Pro models, iPad mini and “AirTags” tracking hardware at a major event on March 16. South Korean publication Economic daily news then picked up and ran with the uncorrected gossip in a report that has since been quoted by numerous online stores.

It’s not known that ‘LeaksApplePro’ has insight into Apple’s business and has made wrong claims in the past regarding new products and timelines. Meanwhile, it appears that “FrontTron focuses on Samsung devices and is largely an unknown in the Apple world. Although it is not a provider of inaccurate predictions like ‘LeaksApplePro’, ‘FrontTron’ has no record in the field.

On Friday, Gurman, a well-connected insider with solid Apple resources, put the nail in the coffin and confirmed on Twitter that there will be no meeting on March 16th. Although he does not specify when the company plans to hold its typical spring event, Gurman notes on “AirTags” will not is released on the 16th.

The apparently fake Twitter posts were probably good guesses based on legitimate reporting and historical launch dates.

Apple is expected to bring new iPad hardware to the forefront this spring with its annual release cycle. Several reports point to an announcement sometime in March, though the date may be pushed back due to persistent development and delays in the supply chain caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
