Apple discontinues iMac Pro, Apple Store says buy ‘while stocks last’

The iMac Pro does not look long for this world, as the Apple Store on Friday removed all constructions on order for the product. The only model currently available for purchase is the $ 4999 base configuration, and the Apple Store says it’s only available while stocks last. Some other SKUs are tentatively available at third-party retailers.

The iMac Pro was introduced in 2017 to offer more powerful all-in-one to high-end customers who want Intel Xeon processors. The chassis was identical, apart from a more efficient cooling system and the space-gray aluminum finish.

However, it was never clear whether the iMac Pro sold well. It’s in a niche segment of the market, and the 2019 Mac Pro Tower takes much of the spotlight to the forefront.

It is also believed that Apple will soon launch a new range of iMacs, with the next generation of Apple silicone processors and GPUs. The performance and efficiency of the M1X chip (or whatever it’s called) is likely to eliminate Apple’s need to split the iMac product line, and simply provide competitive computing performance for all iMacs, thus eliminating the separate Pro model. .

The limitations on some 21.5-inch iMacs are also a sign that a new iMac is on the horizon. The rumor mill expects Apple to launch a radically redesigned iMac with thin rings and a box-like design, similar to the Apple Pro Display XDR. However, an exact launch date for the new iMacs is still unclear. Most reports point to a summer release around the time of WWDC, but perhaps the sudden termination of the iMac Pro means that the new generation of machines will arrive a few months earlier.
