Cook said it was important for people to ‘make physical contact’ because you could not plan collaboration and innovation.

“Innovation is not always a planned activity,” Cook adds. “It touches each other throughout the day and promotes an idea you just had. And you really have to be together to do it.”

Apple has an open floor plan model designed to encourage employees to communicate with each other, and Cook says Apple is still “figuring out” how to manage it when people get back to work. The time away from the office, however, Apple learned that some things are ‘perfect’ to do virtually.

“We realized and learned that there are some things that are ideal to do virtually in Zoom or WebEx, regardless of whether FaceTime, whatever you may have. I think it will be, I’ll call it a hybrid environment . [for] a little.”

Cook also took the opportunity to point out the work that Apple employees did while working remotely. Cook said Apple had a “huge, productive period” with the launch of the 5G iPhone 12 series and the M1 Macs. “These are important achievements,” he said.

“We are a personal team because we believe it is best for collaboration,” Cook said. People. “But we knew it was no longer possible for this period. And so we had to rediscover ourselves.”

Cook said there was no fixed return to work date, but that he “can not wait” for Apple employees to be back at work.

In addition to commenting on Apple’s future plans for returning employees to work, Cook answered a series of quick questions about his daily routine. Cook said he goes to bed live at 9:30 p.m., and wakes up at 4 p.m. He opens Apple News the first morning, and coffee and his iPhone are two things he cannot live without.

Cook said he recently “binged” the Apple TV + series “Ted Lasso” and that strength training is his favorite workout. Cook also said that he last had his nephew FaceTimed, his favorite emoji is the peace sign emoji (✌️) and that he hopes to take a trip to Glacier National Park in the future.
