Apple and Prepear reach agreement on branding for pear-shaped logos

In August 2020, Apple decided to take legal action against a company called Prepear because the company has a pear-shaped logo, which according to Apple is very similar to its own logo – although Prepear has nothing to do with technology. Today, however, both companies have reached an agreement, and Apple will have Prepear use the fruit logo with a subtle change.

Prepear is a derivation of the Super healthy children service, and it offers healthy recipes and a digital grocery list through a mobile app. Apple opposed Prepear’s brand because the logo is an outline of a pear with a leaf, which according to Apple is a copy of its classic logo that can be found on billions of devices around the world today.

A new application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Committee for trial and appeal has revealed that both companies are negotiating a settlement, and the trial process has therefore been suspended for 30 days. As reported by The edgeFinally let Apple use the pear-shaped logo of Prepear

New document fills at the USPTO show that Apple has already agreed to the settlement, which was later confirmed by Prepear co-founder Russ Monson. Monson told the report that the only request to have the logo approved was to change the signed page.

The app’s website already has the new logo, and it’ll be added to other platforms in the coming weeks. For that, a petition at Change.org, asking Apple to ‘save the pear’, received nearly 270,000 signatures.

Apple has not yet discussed the decision.
