Apex Legends players know that having a R-99 SMG is the key to victory. There are, however, a few tips you can use in battle to really master this quick weapon.
The R-99 SMG is one of the best weapons to use in Apex Legends, so picking one up is a great way to give you the chance to become the Apex Champion.
However, the fast submachine gun is a weapon that can also be difficult to handle. The rebound is one of the hardest to control in the game and to inflict the full 198 damage, you must land 90% of the shots from one round of ammunition – which can be difficult in the late game.
To help you unleash the full potential of the R-99, you need to master the hyper-aggressive style of play.

Apex Legends R-99 Damage Stats

The R-99 is still a popular choice for the near game.
As noted, the R-99 can cause serious damage if you get up close to an enemy player. If you manage to master the setback, you will be shredded by an enemy’s health in no time.
If you are lucky enough to get a weapon in the early part of the game, where enemies do not have a bunch of armor on, it will take between six and eight clean shots to inflict 100 damage on an armored opponent. The full breakdown of damage to the Volt can be found below.

Here are the optics that can be fitted on the R-99:
- 1x Holo
- 1x HCOG “Classic”
- 2x HCOG “Bruiser”
- 1x-2x variable Holo

Upload attachments and use optics

The R-99’s recoil becomes much easier to handle with a Barrel Stabilizer.
If you are now willing to get better at Apex, mastering the R-99’s setback could take a while in the Firing Range. However, if luck is on your side, it’s better to upload attachments – specifically the Barrel Stabilizer, Extended Light Mag and a look at your choice.
Unlike other weapons, you are not delayed when you reject the face. In fact, if you aim with the R-99 in sight, you’re still pretty fast across the ground. This means advertising without becoming a sedentary duck.
Never use the R-99 from a long distance

The 30-30 repeater is a good choice for interaction.
Death hungry Apex players will take shots with weapons even if it is not supposed to. You can do a little bit of damage to an enemy, but you will probably never kill, because enemies will simply flee.
The R-99 has only one head shot multiplier of 39 meters and beyond. This means that you are better off using your secondary weapon remotely or trying to get closer to your enemy.
R-99 recoil cartridge

You can see the recoil pattern for the R-99 above. After shaking from side to side for the first 5-6 shots, it flies up and slightly to the right. To lighten it, simply pull down and turn slightly left.
Once you have mastered this setback pattern, you will be even more accurate in fights with a short quarter. You can see backwash patterns for all the weapons here.
So, there you have it, everything you need to know about the R-99. If you follow these tips and tricks of R-99, you will be able to get more SMG death in no time. Make sure you follow it @TitanfallBlog for all the latest news and updates from Apex Legends.
