‘Apex Legends’ gets a permanent solo rope

Apex Legends finally get a lasting solo mode, if that’s probably not what you’ve been hoping for. Respawn and EA have revealed that they will not just start Apex for Switch on March 9 with a Chaos Theory Collection Event (more on that later), but introduces a “no fill” solo ride option. Remove the box in the foyer and the match system will send you into battle without adding teammates. Unfortunately, however, you still face duos or trios – it’s more of a new level of difficulty than the real everyday experience you might have wanted.

There are caps on to prevent skewed matches. You can not use this solo queue in classic plays, and no more than six players who are not full are allowed in one game.

As for the Chaos Theory event? You will see the expected range of skins and heirlooms, but there are also functional changes that take place at the same time. A survival slot provides a place for ‘situational tools’, including a new Heat Shield item that temporarily protects you from damage outside the ring. The shield is initially launched to help you get an “Escalation Takeover” from Ring Fury (where the pockets of the ring will appear within the safe area), but it will generally be useful for the revival of downtrodden allies or to select vulnerable groups.

A takeover of a biting town adds a ‘mousetrap’ that promises golden outdoor items to those who act fast.

The updates are not going to change the fundamental mechanics of the game. However, the solo option at least acknowledges that many people do not want teammates, whether they are often lonely wolves or just do not feel very social.
