Apex Legends’ first Switch trailer shows a smaller battle royally

Respawn Entertainment finally showed Apex Legends runs on the Nintendo Switch. The first game trailer was released on Tuesday, and it looks a lot like the Apex Legends you’re used to it, just a little smaller.

While the footage can mostly be recognized as the Apex Legends players have been expecting for the past few years, there is one notable difference: the game seems to operate at a lower resolution than its console and computer counterpart. Link ports often get a visual hit when you arrive from other platforms, and it looks like Apex Legends is no different.

One question the trailer does not answer is how smooth and consistent the frame rate of the game will be. While this is definitely a highlight of the other versions, the less powerful Switch may have a hard time getting things done wildly, but hopefully the lower resolution will help with that. Although the game’s console and computer versions may work at 60 fps (or higher), the Switch will probably work at 30 fps, although Respawn has not yet officially announced a frame rate for the platform.

The Switch version of Apex Legends will include all the features in the console and computer versions of the game, and will also be on the same patch and season cycle. The new version also has cross-play, allowing Switch players to play online with and against players on any other platform.

Switch players get free legendary skin for limited time for Pathfinder. Because the game will be released in the middle of a new season, Switch players will also receive the first 30 levels of the season 8 battle pass for free, as well as double XP for the first two weeks after the game’s launch. Because Apex Legends progress is not transferred from one platform to another, it should provide a good bonus for new and returning players.

Apex Legends going to come to Nintendo Switch on March 9th.
