Apex Legends is just a battle for now, but Respawn wants to make it so much more. As there have been leaks about a potential Team Deathmatch (TDM) mode, the developers have kept their lips sealed, but point to a major expansion soon.
While Respawn has worked to keep Apex Legends fresh with a number of limited time games, they all focus on one thing – the Battle Royale genre. The outdoor pools or the size of groups can change, but the core game remains the same.
However, with Apex’s third year on the market, Respawn wants to make it so much more. Rumors of expansion to other FPS genres in Apex Legends have been around for a while, and in season 8 there is now more validity than ever before.
Arena triggers are found in the latest King’s Canyon map file.

Although the exact details are still scarce, there were leaks everywhere. A TDM-style mode was the first one on players’ lips after data miners like ‘Shrugtal’ discovered smaller “arenas” that looked perfect for the mode.
Now Respawn comes up with great tips on Apex’s future. Although they will not confirm the exact modes anytime soon – with developers not having to say ‘TDM’ at the request of players, they want to make Apex Legends more than just a battle royale.
‘We’re always looking for ways to expand the space of our Legends outside of Battle Royale. All I will say is that we have a lot of cool prototypes at work, ”developer Brian ‘YaBoiBrian’ Vidovic told players on Reddit.

This comes after a number of different game modes, including the TDM-style Arenas, were leaked before the season 8 update.
The leak contains references to Locked and Loaded, which comes to Apex Legends as an LTM during the anniversary event.
There were also strings of code for solo positions, though Respawn claims the mode would not be healthy for the game.
If the pieces come together, it is likely that the TDM mode could be added later in season 8 or possibly season 9. Either way, Apex Legends is set to become much more than a battle king in 2021.
