Apartment building on the North side collapses after large fire

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas Firefighters from Bexar County are putting out a large apartment fire on the North Side.

The fire broke out around 1pm on Thursday in an apartment complex in the 4000-block TPC Parkway.

Residents say they received a warning to turn off their water heater, and moments later a fire broke out on the second floor of an apartment building in the complex, officials said.

Bexar County firefighters say 50 residents were evacuated from the building.

The fire then spread to other units in the building and slowly destroyed it while firefighters worked to put it out.

Firefighters said they were bringing water to the scene and fighting the flames because the fire hydrant at the complex has not been discharging water since it was frozen. Six water trucks have already emptied, and more help is expected.

Several firefighters from different agencies assist at the scene.

A SAWS map shows a water outage in the area. Residents of the complex say they did not have water, and SAWS says water is expected to be restored in the east of US 281 near Evans and Bulverde roads on Friday.
