Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday begged her Republican colleagues to accept pressure to remove President Donald Trump from office after he provoked an attempted coup at the US Capitol earlier this week.

“To my GOP colleagues: know that this President has incited an uprising and incited his crowd not only to find, harm and possibly kill even Democrats. He * will * allow opportunities of physical harm against you if you’re not loyal enough to him. Remove him, ” the New York Democrat said in a tweet.

Ocasio-Cortex has run into Trump and his GOP institutions in recent days, explicitly blaming them for the violence at the Capitol. She has GOP Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley singled out in that regard.

Five people died on Wednesday as a result of the chaos at the Capitol, during which the insurgents could be heard shouting “where is Mike Pence.” Trump made Pence a target for the anger of the violent mob by scolding the vice president over his election loss.

During a speech with lies before the riot, Trump reiterated the false claim that Pence could unilaterally overturn the election results.

“If Mike Pence does the right thing, we win the election … He has the absolute right to do it,” Trump said.

When it became clear that Pence did not want to play along, Trump attacked him in a tweet when the president’s supporters stormed the Capitol building. “Mike Pence did not have the courage to do what needed to be done to protect our country and our Constitution,” Trump said.

Pence, who was at the Capitol to lead the Electoral College certification, was evacuated along with congressional lawmakers.

Trump issued a late-night condemnation of the violence on Thursday night, acknowledging that a new administration would take over, but stopped conceding President-elect Joe Biden.
