A group of protesters against the growth of the wax temporarily closed the COVID-19 vaccination site in LA’s Dodger Stadium and delayed the appointments by almost an hour.

About 50 protesters gathered at the stadium entrance, holding signs with anti-vaccine and mask rhetoric and shouting at drivers queuing for their vaccinations. No vaccine appointments have been canceled, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman told BuzzFeed News.

The LAFD closed the stadium’s entrance as a precaution for about 55 minutes from 2 p.m., the Los Angeles Times reported. According to at the Los Angeles police station, protesters remained peaceful.

Social media messages and a live stream of the protest showed participants using signs with false anti-vaccine claims and masking floors, lock-in measures and California Government Gavin Newsom. The protesters tried to connect with people in their cars.

Newsom tweeted on Saturday that the state “will not be deterred or threatened by protesters by providing COVID-19 vaccines.

Dodger Stadium is one of the largest vaccination sites in the country and serves a region that is currently struggling with a particularly deadly wave COVID-19. As of Saturday, there were 5,669 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Los Angeles County, with more than 1.1 million cases and 16,647 deaths in the country since the pandemic began.

Earlier this month, protesters against a mask calling COVID-19 harassed a ‘con job’, shoppers in a mall and grocery store in LA. It was not immediately clear whether the two protest groups were linked.

The province is currently vaccinating residents 65 and older, as well as health workers and staff and residents of nursing homes, but COVID-19 cases have continued to increase. To date, one in nine LA County residents has had COVID-19, and at least one COVID-19 death is recorded every 10 minutes across the country.

Los Angeles County has also suspended environmental limits on cremation due to a backlog in bodies at hospitals, funeral homes and crematoria due to COVID-19.

LA musician and resident Mikel Jollett tweeted that the appointment of his mother’s vaccination was delayed due to the protest. His 69-year-old mother, Bonnie, was finally able to get the vaccine after the site reopened, said Jollett, who promotes rock group Airborne Toxic Event.

We’re at the vaccination center in Dodger Stadium to get my mom the vaccine. The protesters against the growth approached the entrance to the site. The LAPD has now closed the gate. We sit here for about half an hour. Nobody moves.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the protest was advertised as the “Scamdemic Protest / March” and asked participants to “refrain” from wearing Trump / MAGA attire because we want our statement to resonate with the sheep. No flags, only information signs. ‘

State and local officials denounced the protest, with Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez calls the demonstration “incredible” while others drew parallels with the extremist right-wingers responsible for the attempted coup at the US Capitol earlier this month.

Unbelievable. If you do not want the vaccine fine, but there are millions of Angelenos who do. 16,000 of your neighbors have died, so go away. https://t.co/OTKL7ugJzL

Dr. Richard Pan, a pediatrician and senator in California, described the protesters as extremists who used intimidation and violence to advance their false beliefs. Anti-vaxxers have regularly disrupted the California legislature over the past few years, and Pan was assaulted in 2019 by an anti-vax activist.

“These extremists have not yet been held accountable, and therefore they continue to increase violence against the body,” Pan said in a statement. “We must now call on the political will to demand that domestic terrorists be punished. for their words and actions. Our democracy and our lives depend on it. ”
