Five more Mainers were killed when health officials reported 572 more coronavirus cases across the country on Friday.
The number of coronavirus cases diagnosed across the country over the past 14 days is 5,336. This is an estimate of the current number of active cases in the state, as the Maine CDC no longer detects recovery for all patients. It rises from 5,165 on Thursday.
This is the fourth consecutive day when Maine has seen cases of coronavirus rise above 500 amid the latest increase in virus transmission.
A woman and four men succumbed to the virus, bringing the total death toll to 763. Of these, one was in their 80s, two in their 60s and two in their 50s, while two were from Androscoggin County, one from Kennebec County, one from Somerset County and one from York County.

So far, 1,761 Mainers have been hospitalized at some point with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Cases have been reported in Androscoggin (6,259), Aroostook (1,544), Cumberland (15,209), Franklin (1,122), Hancock (1,185), Kennebec (5,029), Knox (890), Lincoln (749), Oxford (2,888), Penobscot (5,015), Piscataquis (412), Sagadahoc (1,146), Somerset (1,640), Waldo (766), Washington (807) and York (11,862) provinces. Out of 17,439 COVID-19 tests reported to the Maine CDC in the past 24 hours, 2.6 percent returned positive. Overall, 2,256,300 tests were administered and the static positive percentage was 2.75 percent.
