SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Department of Health on Sunday reported another 465 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state and six new deaths due to the disease.
The department also said 14,243 more vaccines had been administered over Saturday’s numbers.
In the past week, Utah averaged 647 reported cases per day and a positive test rate of 5.2%. There are currently 203 Utahns admitted to the hospital due to COVID-19, including 84 in intensive care.
The state’s total ICU capacity fell just below 70% on Sunday, to 69.8%, after months of overcrowding. As of January 15, the state is using more than 93% of its ICU capacity.
The health department said the numbers were shown Sunday after another 8,422 tests were done in Utah.
Overall, since the pandemic, 371,235 confirmed cases, 1,935 deaths and 716,536 vaccines have been administered in Utah. Of these vaccines, 254,569 were second doses.
The state administered 368,114 doses of Pfizer vaccine and 348,422 Modner vaccines, both of which require two shots for maximum effectiveness. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine with one shot has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and may be available in Utah as early as this week.
The six deaths reported on Sunday include:
- A Salt Lake County woman between the ages of 65 and 84, who was a resident of a long-term care facility
- A Salt Lake County man between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized when he died
- A Summit County man between 45 and 64 years old who was not admitted to the hospital when he died
- A man from Tooele County between the ages of 45 and 64 who was not admitted to hospital
- A man from the province of Utah over the age of 85 who was a resident of a long-term care facility
- A Weber County woman between the ages of 65 and 84, who was a resident of a long-term care facility
