Another 344 cases of COVID-19, 14,3,000 new vaccinations reported in Utah on Sunday

SALT LAKE CITY – There were 344 new COVID-19 cases in Utah with no new deaths, according to an update provided by the Utah Department of Health Sunday.

According to the Department of Health, the current average number of positive cases per day of seven days is about 400 cases per day. According to updated data, this is a decrease of six from Saturday.

The rate in Utah has been higher than 400 new cases per day since September 9, 2020. It reached 3,392 new cases per day in November and 3,258 per day in early January.

Meanwhile, the positive test rate per day for the period reported using the ‘people on people’ method is now 7%. The positive test rate per day of seven days, calculated using the ‘test over test’ method, is 3.4%.

The health department reported on Sunday that another 14,350 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered. In total, nearly 1.5 million total vaccines were administered in the state.

Nearly 975,000 Utahns have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and the state is expected to exceed 1 million this week. The state reports that 564,824 Utahns have been “fully vaccinated,” meaning they have received both doses of a two-dose vaccine, or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is a single-dose vaccine.

The Department of Health also reported Sunday that there are currently 129 COVID-19 patients in Utah due to COVID-19. That is five less than what was reported on Saturday. Forty-five of those admitted to the hospital were in intensive care units.

Sunday’s total number of cases has Utah 387,341 total confirmed cases, with 15,608 total hospitalizations and 2,132 total deaths due to the disease since March 2020. The new numbers indicate less than a 1% increase in positive cases since Saturday.

Of the more than 2.4 million people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 1.6% tested positive for COVID-19.
