Another 189 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the state, Maine health officials said Sunday.
The number of coronavirus cases diagnosed across the country over the past 14 days is 7,489. This is an estimate of the current number of active cases in the state, as the Maine CDC no longer detects recovery for all patients. It is 7,579 lower on Saturday.
These are the fewest new cases Maine has seen since Nov. 23, when only 182 were reported in the state. This comes amid a prolonged trend in new cases over the past few days, and about ten days since Maine had a record of 824 cases.
No new deaths were reported, leaving the total death toll at 544.
According to Sunday’s report, the total number of coronavirus cases in Maine is 36,787, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. This is higher than 36 598 Saturday.
Of these, 29,913 were positively confirmed, while 6,874 were classified as ‘probable cases’, the CDC reported in Maine.
The new case rate across Sunday is 1.4 cases per 10,000 residents, and the total case rate is 273.71.
Most cases were detected in Mainers in their 20s, while Mainers older than 80 years account for the most deaths. More cases and deaths were recorded in women than men.
A technical issue delayed the release of more detailed data on Sunday, Maine CDC spokesman Robert Long said.
So far, 1,326 Mainers have been hospitalized at some point with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Of these, 189 people are currently hospitalized, with 55 in critical care and 22 in ventilators. There are 95 critical care beds available out of 394, and 224 fans out of 320 available. Of alternative fans, 443 are available.
There are cumulative 109,262 vaccinations, with 86,605 Mainers receiving the first dose and 22,657 the second vaccinations.
