The Boston Celtics are currently riding in first class on the struggle bus so far this NBA season. Who would have predicted that they would score fewer wins at this point of the season than the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Hornets? Nobody, that’s who.

The Celtics have been 8-14 since returning to court after their COVID-19 break. So far no players have shot at each other or the coaching staff in the media. The general manager, Danny Ainge, accepted the responsibility and took the blame for the team’s struggle, as it was he who compiled the list.

Although it is Ainge’s responsibility to sign and trade players to make the rankings, he has little control over what happens on the court. At the moment, the Celtics just are not a very good team, although they have two All-Stars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in the team.

The tandem is doing all the hard work for the team offensively as Kemba Walker is still working back from a knee surgery out of season. They combine for 51 points per game, but the team does not win. There is also a player in the NBA who believes that the losses will accumulate as long as the Celtics rely on the Brown / Tatum combination.

Recently an anonymous player harsh criticism of the Boston duo.

It is a pity that the player did not attach their name to this quote. This is nonetheless a serious criticism from one of their peers. If they just look at their assistant numbers, they can probably do a little more to get their teammates involved.

Without their leading assistant, Marcus Smart, you would hope that one of the young franchise cornerstones would perform and adapt their game, but they still have to do it. The evidence is in the win-loss column.

For the Celtics to take their game to the next level, one of Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum needs to start expanding their game. Although it was an anonymous quote, NBA players have forgotten more about basketball than most people will ever learn in their lives.

This assessment is not unfounded, and it may be time for the Celtics’ young duo to look in the mirror and make changes to help the team win a few games.
