Angels place Dexter Fowler on injured list, Jaime Barria calls

Dexter Fowler is on his way to the injured list with a sprained knee. The Angels will call Jaime Barria to take his rankings according to Fabian Ardaya of Athletic (via Twitter).

Fowler has yet to have a star in Los Angeles in his first week, dropping 0.250 / .286 / .250 in 21 record appearances in his first seven games. Juan Lagares could see time right while Fowler is on the shelf. Alternatively, Jared Walsh or David Fletcher could move from the interior to the outfield. Either way, for the time being, the Angels are going with just a three-man bench. The Angels’ 11 position players include Shohei Ohtani and Albert Pujols, none of them are expected in the field (unless Ohtani throws of course).

Barria, 24, can serve as a tall man, which can be especially helpful while Ohtani is recovering from a blister. Barria has been a regular part of the English list for the past three seasons, starting 44 and making eight appearances from the bull. In total, he owns a 4.46 ERA / 5.02 FIP over 244 1/3 overs with just a 35.7 percent baseball figure, 19.3 percent pass rate and 8.0 percent walk. None of the rate stats are very promising, but he manages to earn 1.5 fWAR.
