Andy Cohen says firing Vanderpump rules was ‘decisions for that moment’

He famously fired a string of Vanderpump Rules stars, including Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute, after their racially insensitive revelations were revealed last year.

But Andy Cohen has apparently expressed some regret over the sudden layoffs, calling them ‘decisions for that moment’ in a recent interview with the New York Times.

The executive producer, 52, also suggested it would be ‘more interesting’ for the audience to see at home how the stars discuss their controversy over the program.

“It’s more interesting to sit with people you are interested in at the moment and see how they find their way than to simply turn off the lights and forget that they exist,” he explained.

In June 2020, Bravo announces that two of the original cast members of Vanderpump Rules, Schroeder and Doute, will not be returning to the show, according to the Variety.

Their dismissal came after Faith Stowers, the former co-star, once “exposed” the couple to police for a crime she had nothing to do with. ‘

Two of Vanderpump Rules’ newer stars, Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni, have also been fired from the series in the past for publishing ‘racist’ tweets.

A more recent shooting took place last month when it was revealed that the series’ most controversial character, Jax Taylor, as well as his wife Brittany Cartwright, will be saying goodbye to Vanderpump Rules.

During his interview with the New York Times, Andy also took a moment to discuss the controversy over the ‘homophobic’ pastor Jax and Brittany originally chose to hold the 2019 wedding.

“It did not seem so shocking to me that someone’s family pastor in Kentucky was homophobic,” he recalls. ‘I do not condense homophobia. I say it exists. ‘

After digging up the pastor’s derogatory remarks about the LGBTQ community, Jax and Brittany used NSYNC alum Lance Bass as their pastor.

Cohen explained that Bravo was ‘able to build a big tent’ on their network because they did not shy away from different points of view / lifestyles / etc. on their reality series’.

This prompted the Watch What Happens Live host to highlight the recent controversy over the Bravo show Southern Charm and the setback it received from fans.

‘Why wouldn’t it be turned on? Do we want to cancel the South? he asks rhetorically.

Vanderpump Rules premiered at Bravo in 2013 and follows the drama-filled workplace in which it is Lisa Vanderpump’s SUR restaurant in West Hollywood.

And with eight seasons behind it, the remaining cast members of Vanderpump Rules are eager to film season nine.

Series star Scheana Shay has confirmed that the ninth season of Vanderpump Rules has not yet begun filming due to the closure of COVID-19 restaurants in Los Angeles.
