Android phones have some features that can make iPhone owners jealous.

Sarah Tew / CNET

The argument between iPhone and Android owners are as old as both platforms, and one I may not see ending soon. With the announcement and release of major updates, both parties want to show copied features or updates that the other operating system does not have.

For example, Google recently Android 12 developer beta. It is only available to those who are very brave try it now, and although not many consumer-oriented features have yet been enabled, we do so now as Google the iPhone microphone and camera use indicators to enhance privacy.

When Apple released iOS 14, the iPhone got new home screen widgets and the option to create custom app icons. Yes, Android users had fun with the old but delicious.

Although Apple is still adding Android features to iOS, Android users still have a lot of bragging rights to iPhone users. From using two apps simultaneously to Google Assistant and more customization options are currently at least some of the features that Android owners can claim as their own. Below are seven things that Android is still doing better than the iPhone. Facts. Do not worry. I also gave Android the same treatment by highlights what the iPhone does better. Also facts.

Surprising Android Tricks An iPhone Can’t Do

Use the apps you want, not the apps Google wants you to use

Yes, yes, yes. Apple has added the ability to set your default email or web browser application in iOS 14, but this is it. It looks like iOS 14.5 will allow you to configure your default music program, but the upcoming update is still in beta and has not been finalized.

Google has always given Android users the opportunity to set their default apps for a number of different tasks. Do you want to use a different app for texting than pre-installed? Do it. In reality, you must use Google Messages as your default application for its sweet chat features that are getting closer and closer to the equation of iMessage.

It’s not hard to see which apps are marked by default on your Android device: make the Institutions app and go to Programs and notifications > Default programs. To change the default, select the app category, such as Phone app or Browser app and select from the options.

Google Assistant is always ready for you.

Google Victory Assistant

iPhone users have Siri, but Android gives you Google Assistant. Google Assistant is a much more sophisticated tool than Apple’s Siri for several reasons, but the most important is that it uses Google’s impressive database.

Google Assistant can understand common requests for businesses and names, and it gets requests more often than not. It also returns high quality answers from Google Search, a tool that Siri does not have access to.

Google Assistant also integrates tightly with the other features of the phone to tell you when it’s time to leave for your next meeting and to warn you that traffic will be heavy on the way home. If you have any Google Home or Nest Home smart speakers or other compatible devices, you can also use Assistant on your phone to control smart devices in your home such as lights, outlets or your thermostat – even from a distance.

split-screen applications

Split screen is easy to use on an Android phone and enhances the versatility of a phone.

And it’s built right into your Android device. “OK, Google” and “Hey, Google” are the two phrases. If you need help knowing what to ask, you can ask a list of commands to Google Assistant: “OK, Google, what can you do?” iPhone owners can also install the Google app to use Assistant, but it is not built-in and is not the default personal assistant.

Use two applications simultaneously through split screen mode

Although iPadOS does not support the use of multiple apps at the same time, iOS 14 and the iPhone. However, since 2016, Android users have had split-screen apps with the release of Android 7.0 Nougat.

It’s handy to use two apps if you’re looking for a contact’s phone number to send to someone on Facebook Messenger, or if you need to refer information to a document when composing an email. It’s unclear why Apple hasn’t added this feature to the iPhone yet, but maybe it has something to do with the size of the app windows on the iPhone screen compared to the larger iPad. The easiest way to use split-screen mode is to open the multitasking view and tap the app’s icon at the top of the multitasking map – this is the same icon you use to launch the app from your home screen . Choose Split screen then select the second app you want to open at the same time from the list of options. (These steps may vary depending on the Android phone you are using. For example, Samsung phones have their own version of the interface.)

You can resize each app by dragging the small handle between the two apps to expand or reduce how much space each app takes up.

OS-level support for a stylus is a killer feature.

The stylus is stronger than an iPhone

Not every Android device supports a stylus, but Android owners at least have the option to buy a phone like this Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S21 Ultra or even Motorola’s Moto G Stylus.

With built-in stylus support, you can write notes, make sketches, and edit photos precisely. This is a tool that many users like, and on Android it is definitely an option. With the expansion of its S Pen to more devices like the S21 Ultra, one has to assume that other Android manufacturers will follow. Samsung has taken the lead for years in introducing new features to Android, which Google often knocks out. Either way, Android fans already have some worthy options if they want a stylus.

Rumors have been circulating for years that Apple will be bringing Apple Pencil support to the iPhone, but we have yet to see that happen.

Customize your home screen just the way you want it

Apple’s home screen approach is still closed to put all installed apps on a fixed grid, though you can do so now add widgets to the home screen and use it custom app icons to confuse the overall look. However, the home screen on Android devices does not follow a grid layout, allowing you to place apps wherever you want. With both platforms, you can create folders that contain groups of applications.

The advantage of Android’s approach is that you can customize the home screen by arranging app icons in each pattern of your choice.

The way your Android phone’s home screen looks there is because of the launcher. But you do not stick with what is pre-installed.

You can use launchers to fully customize your phone

Launch apps are the epitome of Android customization. With these apps, you can completely change how you handle the home screen, the app download and even the app icons on your phone. With a launcher on your Android phone, you can customize almost every aspect of how your phone looks and acts, making your phone even more personal than it already is.

Launchers like Nova Launcher, Microsoft’s Launcher, Apex Launcher and Action Launcher all add their own twists and features to your Android phone. For example, another popular Android launcher, Evie, highlights the use of a search bar to quickly find and open apps, or anything else on your Android phone. This is minimalism at its best.

I recommend taking some time to research the different launchers, try a few of them and really customize the look and feel of your phone. Just be warned: the deeper you dive into the world of launchers, the more time and energy you will spend adapting your setup.

It’s hard to imagine a world where Apple would ever let something like this happen to the iPhone, even though it seems like it could loosen its grip on how many iPhone users. change the look of their home screen.

wallpapers app

The Wallpapers app is a must have for any Android user.

Never get bored thanks to backgrounds that change automatically

If you’ve put a lot of effort into finding and customizing a launcher, there’s another way to keep your Android phone constantly fresh, and that’s another thing your iPhone friends cannot do – use Google’s Wallpapers app.

The Wallpapers app refreshes the wallpaper on your home screen and lock screen on a daily basis, without you having to do anything.

There are different categories of wallpaper styles to choose from. Choose your favorite and let the app take care of the rest. Personally, I use the category of geometric shapes. The backgrounds are unique and colorful.

Granted, the iPhone now has wallpapers to choose from depending on whether or not dark mode is enabled, and if you take the time to find or build a shortcut, you can schedule the wallpaper according to a schedule changes automatically – but it’s not as easy to use as the Wallpapers app.
